London, UK, 15 December 2015 – Canon Europe, world-leader in imaging solutions, today announces the launch of the Canon XEED 4K500ST, its first 4K installation projector¹. Designed for a wide range of applications including simulation, medical imaging and engineering, the projector offers 4K resolution whilst being compact and lightweight.
Canon XEED 4K500ST
Exceptional optical performance
Utilising Canon’s heritage and expertise in optical design and advanced imaging technologies, the XEED 4K500ST delivers outstanding resolution and image quality. Featuring a high definition 4,096 x 2,400 LCOS panel, content exceeding the resolution of 4K digital cinema can be projected. With Canon’s unique and improved AISYS (Aspectual Illumination System) optical system, the projector has an increased contrast ratio, delivering deep, pure colours and true reproduction of black areas, enhancing the viewing experience. Additionally, the XEED 4K500ST is capable of displaying very fine, detailed images with striking definition, perfect for engineering applications where Computer-Aided Design (CAD) work and 3D modelling require high levels of detail.
The XEED 4K500ST is brighter than other projectors in its class, featuring 5,000 lumens for constant brightness across the entire zoom range, ideal for public display applications with high levels of ambient light. Thanks to a newly developed 4K wide zoom lens, the XEED 4K500ST is capable of projecting large images from a short distance, as well as a peripheral focussing function that enables the projection of images onto curved screens. The projector is the only one of its kind to feature a lens that has a constant aperture (‘F’ number) across the entire zoom range and maintains an aperture of F2.6, regardless of zoom position. As a result, the brightness at the telephoto end of the zoom range will be almost the same as at the wide end, making it easy to install and reposition without rebalancing ambient light².
Industry leading design
Weighing in at just 17.6Kg, including the lens, the XEED 4K500ST is the world’s lightest 4K projector in its class. Its compact size can fit unobtrusively into a variety of installed environments, meaning 4K projection can become a reality outside of the cinema environment.
With a low latency time of 16.6ms, the lowest for any 4K projector on the market, the XEED 4K500ST offers the quickest response time for a 4K projector, making it ideal for simulation environments. It also incorporates a new ultra-modular design with the lamp and filter being easily accessible, even whilst the projector is installed, making it quick and easy to service.
Beautiful, blended images from multiple projectors
With Canon’s high definition edge blending technology, multiple XEED 4K500ST projectors can be combined to provide large scale, beautifully blended images with very little distortion. Four-corner keystone correction for edge blending makes the set-up process for this simple and achievable.
Extended lamp life
On top of offering superior output and a compact design, the XEED 4K500ST maintains Canon’s reputation for efficient power consumption. In “Eco mode” the lamp uses just 470W and lasts up to 4,000 hours before a replacement is required. Supported by Canon’s three year lamp warranty, up to three free replacement lamps may be claimed if a lamp fails, effectively eliminating the cost of replacement lamps. This substantially lowers the running cost of the XEED 4K500ST, making it an attractive choice for a wide range of installations.
“Canon’s aim is to establish itself as the leading company in the 5,000-10,000 lumen 4K installation market. Today’s launch is the first significant step on that journey,” said Andreas Herrnböck, European Business Development Manager Projector, Visual Communications, Canon Europe. “The XEED 4K500ST is designed to meet increasing market demand for high resolution, high quality imaging performance, even in close range installations. The compact casing and ultra-modular design make it convenient to install, and incredibly easy to manage.”
The XEED 4K500ST will be available in H1 2016.
